What ADESAM is used for?
It is used for the treatment of adults with intrahepatic cholestasis in pre-cirrhotic and cirrhotic states or in pregnancy
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:
Are allergic to ademetionine
Have bipolar disorder
Have folate deficiency
Have hyperammonemia (high levels of ammonia in blood)
Treatment can be initiated with parenteral administration and continued or initiated orally
Always take this medicine exactly as told by your doctor
It should be swallowed whole and not chewed
It should not be taken with meals
Adults:
Intrahepatic Cholestasis: 10-25 mg/kg/day orally
Usual Starting Dose: 800 mg/day
Total Daily Dose: Not to exceed 1600 mg/day
Maintenance Therapy: 800-1600 mg/day
If you take more ADESAM
If you take more ADESAM, contact your doctor immediately
If you forget to take ADESAM
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as usual
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop taking ADESAM
Do not stop taking ADESAM unless your doctor tells you to do so

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stomach Upset
Rashes
Angioedema (swelling of your face, lips, throat or tongue)
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
Medicines used for mental disorders such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., clomipramine)
Over-the-counter and herbal supplements containing tryptophan
Storage
Do not use this medicine after expiry date
Keep it out of reach of children
Store at room temperature (15-25ÂșC)
