CARPINE contains Pilocarpine which belongs to a group of medicines called miotics
CARPINE contains Pilocarpine which belongs to a group of medicines called miotics
It is used,
To induce miosis (excessive constriction of the pupil) during cataract surgery with intraocular lens implant
To treat glaucoma, and for dry mouth (xerostomia) in patients with Sjogren's syndrome
As an antidote for alkaloid drug poisoning
Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:
Are allergic to pilocarpine or any of the other ingredients in this medicine
Are suffering from inflammation of part of the eye (acute iritis or anterior uveitis)
Are suffering from eye disorders such as narrow angle glaucoma or secondary glaucoma
Are wearing soft contact lenses
Are suffering from any heart problems
Have asthma
Have Parkinson’s disease
Have problems in passing urine
Have high blood pressure
Are an alcoholic
CARPINE will be given to you by doctor or a nurse
The dose will be decided by your doctor based on the age and disease condition
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
Itching, smarting and a burning sensation around the eye
A red skin rash with itching (urticaria)
Swelling, redness or soreness of the eyelid
Swelling of the front of the eye (conjunctiva)
Temporarily blurred vision or short sightedness
Enlargement of the veins in the eye
Headache (especially in young patients at the beginning of treatment)
Bleeding within the front of the eye
Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines including:
Antihistamines (medicines used to treat allergies)
Anticholinesterases, (such as neostigmine) medicines that affect the muscles and are used to treat diseases like myasthenia gravis
Atropine and phenylephrine (medicines used to make the pupil larger)
Orphenadrine, procyclidine and trihexyphenidyl (medicines used to treat parkinson’s disease)
Amitriptyline and monoamine oxidase inhibitors, phenothiazines (medicines to treat mental problems)
Chlorpromazine
Guanethidine (medicines used to treat high blood pressure)
Keep this medicine out of reach of children
Store at room temperature (15-25°C)
Do not use CARPINE after the expiry date
