What INTALFA 5MIU is used for?
It is used in,
Adult patients to treat certain disorders that affect the blood, bone marrow, lymph glands or skin and may extend into the body. Included are hairy cell leukaemia, chronic myelogenous leukaemia, multiple myeloma, follicular lymphoma, carcinoid tumor, and malignant melanoma
Adult patients for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B or C, which are viral infections of the liver
Combination with ribavirin in children 3 years of age and older and adolescents who have previously untreated chronic hepatitis C
Talk to your Doctor, if you:
Are allergic to Interferon alfa-2b or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
Have poor kidney or liver function
Have a history of seizures (convulsions)
Have a history of autoimmune disease
Have had an organ transplant and are taking medicine that suppresses your immune system (your immune system helps protect you from infection)
Have thyroid disease that is not well controlled
Have cirrhosis or other liver problems (other than hepatitis B or C)
Develop symptoms associated with a cold or other respiratory infection, such as fever, cough or any difficulty in breathing
Are also being treated for HIV
Have a current or previous infection with the hepatitis B virus
Had a heart attack or a heart problem
Have ever been treated for depression or any other psychiatric disorder; confusion; unconsciousness; thoughts of suicide or attempted suicide
Have a history of breathing irregularities or pneumonia, problems with blood clotting, liver condition, thyroid problems, diabetes, or high or low blood pressure
INTALFA 5MIU will be administered by a doctor or nurse
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Serious
Swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, face, lips, mouth, or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing, hives, fainting
Chest pain, persistent and severe cough, irregular or rapid heartbeat
Shortness of breath
Confusion, pain in hands or feet
Seizure (convulsions)
Trouble sleeping
Thinking or concentrating, altered mental state
Suicidal thoughts, suicide attempt, changed behaviour, aggressive behaviour (sometimes directed against others)
Hallucinations, severe stomach pain
Black or tar like stools
Blood in stool or urine
Severe nosebleed
High sugar level in blood
Fever or chills beginning after a few weeks of treatment
Lower back or side pain
Difficult urination
Problems with your eyes or your eyesight
Hearing, loss of hearing
Severe or painful reddening or sores on your skin or mucous membrane
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
Theophylline or aminophylline (used for asthma)
Sleeping pill
Sedatives or strong pain medicines
Ribavirin combination therapy and zidovudine
Telbivudine (used to treat hepatitis B)
Storage
Keep this medicine out of reach of children
Store in a refrigerator at 2-8°C
