It is used in preventing pregnancy
It works by inhibiting the monthly release of an egg by the ovaries and changing the mucus produced by the cervix (narrow outer end of the womb). This slows the movement of the sperm through the mucus and through the uterus (womb)
Talk to your doctor if you:
Are allergic to any other ingredients of this medicine
Have a strong family history of breast cancer
Suffer from diabetes
Have high blood pressure
Have abnormal levels of fats in the bloodstream (high cholesterol or triglycerides)
Have epilepsy/seizures
Have history of depression
Have gallbladder or pancreatic disease
Have history of liver disease or jaundice
Have family history of blood clots, heart attacks or strokes
Birth control pills should not be taken by pregnant women
If you are breast-feeding, consult your doctor before starting the birth control pill
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or planning to have baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you

If you take more OVRAL L
If you take more of this medicine, talk to your doctor or go to your nearest hospital immediately
If you forget to take OVRAL L
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember it, take the next dose at your regular time
If you stop taking OVRAL L
Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells to do so
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Sharp chest pain, coughing of blood, or sudden shortness of breath (indicating a possible clot in the lung)
Pain in the calf (indicating a possible clot in the leg)
Crushing chest pain or heaviness in the chest (indicating a possible heart attack)
Sudden severe headache or vomiting, dizziness or fainting, disturbances of vision or speech, weakness, or numbness in an arm or leg (indicating a possible stroke)
Sudden partial or complete loss of vision (indicating a possible clot in the eye)
Breast lumps (indicating possible breast cancer or fibrocystic disease of the breast; ask your health-care provider to show you how to examine your breasts)
Severe pain or tenderness in the stomach area (indicating a possibly ruptured liver tumor)
Difficulty in sleeping, weakness, lack of energy, fatigue, or change in mood (possibly indicating severe depression)
Jaundice or a yellowing of the skin or eyeballs, accompanied frequently by fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, dark-colored urine, or light-colored bowel movements (indicating possible liver problems)
Unexpected vaginal bleeding or spotting and changes in the usual menstrual period
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
Drugs used for epilepsy such as barbiturates (e.g., phenobarbital) and phenytoin, primidone, topiramate,carbamazepine
Certain drugs used in the treatment of tuberculosis (e.g.rifampicin, rifabutin)
Drugs used for HIV or AIDS such as ritonavir
Herbal products containing St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
Antibiotics (e.g., penicillins, tetracyclines, for infectious diseases
Cyclosporine
Antifungals (griseofulvin)
Cholesterol-lowering drugs (e.g. clofibrate)
Antihypertensive drugs (for high blood pressure)
Antidiabetic drugs and insulin (for diabetes)
Prednisone
Keep this medicine out of reach of the children
Store at a room temperature of 15-25ºC
