Selsun suspension is a medicated topical suspension used to treat dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis (a greasy, crusting, itching scalp caused by excess oil). It contains selenium sulphide which belongs to a class of medications called anti-fungals. It works by slowing the growth of the yeast that causes the infection like dandruff. It works against dandruff by reducing greasiness of the scalp and by slowing down growth of the layer of skin cells on the scalp that cause dandruff. Dandruff is a condition of the scalp that causes flakes of skin to appear. It is often accompanied by itching. Selsun suspension should not be used for 2 days before or after any hair treatments like dyeing, tinting, perming or chemical straightening. Do not leave the shampoo in contact with the hair or skin for more than the recommended duration as irritation, burning sensation or blistering may occur, and do not use more often than recommended.
